Red Bird Mission is a private, nonprofit Christian human services organization dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus Christ. Located in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky between Manchester and Hazard, Red Bird Mission has provided education, healthcare, and community support to the region since 1921. As economic challenges have impacted the area, the Mission has expanded its outreach to meet a variety of needs through community assistance programs, housing ministries, and educational opportunities. Georgetown First United Methodist Church partners with Red Bird Mission by collecting needed items for distribution and organizing volunteer teams that travel to serve through outreach ministries, home repair projects, and other Mission-requested opportunities. At this time, GFUMC responds to Red Bird Mission needs as they arise. Requests for donations, volunteers, and other support opportunities are shared through CareMail and the weekly church bulletin. Church members are encouraged to participate by donating requested items, volunteering their time, or supporting special projects as opportunities become available.
