FIVE-STAR RATING
Georgetown First Preschool has earned a five-star rating from the Kentucky Department of Education by meeting the standards for Level Five in the Kentucky All STARS Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System! Congratulations to Paige Willhite, Director of Early Childhood Education, the Preschool Advisory Board and especially the dedicated teachers and staff. We are so grateful for each one of you.
Kentucky All STARS is Kentucky’s expanded five-star quality rating and improvement system for early care and education programs. Studies show that children who attend high quality early learning environments have better math, language and social skills. The unified system serves all early care and education programs that receive public funding including child care centers, Head Start and public preschool. Kentucky All STARS is based on Kentucky’s Early Childhood Standards and research-based indicators of quality. It recognizes programs that have made a commitment to continuous quality improvement. On the path toward higher quality, programs can benefit from supports including training, technical assistance and coaching.
MISSION STATEMENT
At First United Methodist Church, we pledge to provide a quality curriculum in a fun, nurturing, Christian-led environment; preparing each child for academic success by building a strong educational as well as spiritual foundation.
PRESCHOOL
Our preschool offers classes for children ages 2 years through 4 years old. Classes run from 8:45-12:30 and we operate closely with the Scott County Schools calendar. Please contact the church office for more information.
CURRICULUM
Our curriculum is designed to enhance the development of each child through age appropriate activities. This will be done through chapel time, art, language, music, thematic units, and play. Our curriculum includes YoGalore.
What Is Yogalore?
YoGalore includes all the benefits of yoga while helping children nurture essential skills in an environment that fosters learning. YoGalore uses sensory-based activities to help children develop both fine and gross motor skills, encourage social interaction, learn to follow directions, and receive a variety of sensory experiences designed to help regulate and balance the body’s response system.
One very important aspect of YoGalore is that we provide the tools and concepts that will help you know WHY these activities are beneficial and purposeful. Sometimes — as adults — we forget that play is so much more than “play”. Just because kids are having fun, doesn’t mean that they aren’t learning something meaningful.
Our Yogalore classes are on average 30 minutes, but we fit a lot into those 30 minutes! We have a yoga practice where we have some familiar poses, breaths and stretches we always do. Then we have a few new poses, usually pertaining to our book we’re reading. Next we have a short story time, followed by our Creative & Sensory Exploration time. Sometimes we may mix it up a little and have an art activity or we may play a game or have some activities with the parachute for a change of pace. We end class with a short Rest & Relax (in yoga we call it savasana), which helps the children learn to relax and be still in the moment. Little ones are always on the move, so taking a minute or two out of our class is so important.
